See Ethiopia for yourself and join in the change. Ethiopia is the cradle of all humanity. Once ruled by kings and queens and part of a kingdom stretching from Egypt down the central coast, the pride of Ethiopians in their country is well deserved. King Haile Sellasie was the last king of Ethiopia and known for never giving in to Italian occupation, making Ethiopia the only African country never colonized. Ethiopia is the believed home of the Ark of the Covenant and source of the Nile. The country is wealthy in archeological sites and natural beauty. Far from the famine of the 1980's shown in the media, Ethiopia stretches across highland mountain plateaus, lush valleys, and rivers running all across the country. Ethiopia's culture is distinct and rich and worth learning more about. Visiting Ethiopia is bound to make you fall in love, and so we encourage all to schedule a trip and see the needs for yourself. Maybe you would then like to go back to your local congregation or community group and encourage them to support the school in some way. Volunteer. If you think you might like to be a visiting teacher, a teacher in residence, train teachers, help setup computer labs, provide counseling services for the kids, help setup the clinic, provide nursing services or other medical services, help with the construction of the school, or any other area of volunteer work..... please let us know. We would deeply appreciate all of the volunteer help we can get. Become a Lighting the Ethiopian Path Project Funding Coordinator. The Project Funding Coordinators are integral to the growth of the school and homes. They are volunteers who organize the support of specific projects from their home area. For example, one Project Coordinator is organizing the donation of 5 used sewing machines and patterns within her small town. The Sewing Project Coordinator will be showing a video and talking about the project with her friends and local church. This small group will be planning ways to collect the needed machines over the next few months. The sewing machines will be used in the clothing design and tailoring vocational program at the school, as well as by local women to make uniforms for the students. The coordinator may even make a trip after the school is built to help with some sewing classes, but if not, will be sent pictures of the classes and the local women using the machines to make uniforms for the students. We need coordinators for many different projects and the size of the project can be left up to each coordinator. You can choose short-term or long-term program designs and we are open to any suggestions you might have. Listed below are some specific projects for which we will need coordinators and we'd be glad to give you more details of each area of need if you are interested.
